Tools supporting education

In order to ensure equal opportunities in access to education and full participation in academic life, the Małopolska State University named after Captain W. Pilecki in Oświęcimiu has implemented a number of solutions supporting people with special needs, including people with disabilities.

As part of ongoing initiatives and EU projects aimed at increasing accessibility, the University has been equipped with modern tools, devices, and technologies to support learning, communication, and independent functioning on campus. These include induction loops, devices for digitizing educational materials, magnifiers for the visually impaired, information kiosks, computer equipment equipped with accessibility solutions, devices supporting the blind, and systems that enhance user safety.

The solutions presented below are available in various locations across the University and are part of the efforts to create a modern, friendly and accessible academic environment for students, staff and guests of the University.

The university has three mobile induction loops for the hearing impaired. Thanks to their mobile design, the devices can be used in various locations throughout the University, according to the needs of the users.

Scanner for digitization Educational materials support individuals with special needs. The device allows for quick document scanning, editing, and conversion to editable text files (OCR), facilitating access to educational materials.

Electronic enlarger It supports visually impaired people in reading books and other materials. The device allows for adjustments to magnification, contrast, and text display, increasing the comfort and accessibility of using library resources.

Multimedia info kiosks They provide easy access to key information and University services. The devices are equipped with an adjustable touchscreen, content magnification, and a voiceover function, and one of the kiosks also has a Braille keyboard.

Automatic Braille labeler enables the creation and printing of self-adhesive labels in Braille, increasing the accessibility of equipment and spaces for people with visual impairments.

Full HD webcam packages designed for broadcasting classes, meetings and online consultations.

Webcams increase the accessibility of the University by enabling the conduct and broadcast of classes online and active student participation in classes.

The devices offer Full HD 1080p video quality, a wide viewing angle, a built-in microphone, and adjustable settings. They are compatible with Windows and macOS, as well as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, and Messenger.

Transparent stickers with Braille markings placed on the computer keyboard, making it easier for blind and visually impaired people to use the computer.

Self-adhesive, transparent Braille stickers for keyboards enable the marking of letter, number, function and navigation keys, supporting accessibility for people with visual impairments.

BigTrack 2 computer mouse with a large trackball and contrasting buttons, designed for people with mobility disabilities.

BigTrack2 computer mouse adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, it is equipped with a large trackball and contrasting buttons, which makes it easier for people with limited mobility to operate the computer.

Digital voice recorder designed for recording lectures, voice notes and teaching materials.

Dictaphones Equipped with 2,5 GB of internal memory (up to 80 hours of recording), a USB 2.0 port, a built-in headphone jack, and a microphone connector. The battery allows for a minimum of 10 hours of continuous operation.

Lenovo notebook used to implement activities supporting accessibility and the learning process.

Notebook Lenovo equipped with 8 GB of RAM and a keyboard for easy operation.

In addition, elements were purchased to increase the accessibility of the equipment, including keyboards with large (2,5 × 2,5 cm), ergonomically placed keys in contrasting colors.

An acoustic cabin designed for individual study, work, and online conversations and meetings.

Acoustic cabin It provides comfortable conditions for individual work, studying, and conducting phone calls and online meetings. The soundproofed interior reduces ambient noise, increasing concentration and comfort.

The solution supports students and employees who need a quiet space for studying, consulting, and participating in classes and meetings remotely.

Interactive monitors 75" and 86" – 10 units. Modern devices equipped with touchscreens enable interactive classes, display teaching materials, and work with computers and mobile devices. They increase the accessibility and attractiveness of the learning process.

Braille tablets (Tactile) signs are used to mark rooms and spaces in a way that is accessible to blind and visually impaired people. Thanks to their raised letters and Braille notation, they enable independent orientation within the building, reading room names and room numbers.
